The Swedish forest industry has had exceptional times. Inflation and rising interest rates have hampered the country's economy, and construction has decreased dramatically. However, the weak krone has helped the country's export-oriented forest industry. <\/span>It has kept demand and production volumes high, but due to the depressed prices of lumber, many sawmills have made a loss. In general, sawmills can lower the prices they pay for wood in a downturn, but still get enough raw material. This has not been the case now.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The enthusiasm of forest owners to sell wood has dropped sharply since last November. There can be many factors in the background, but it is clear that a lot of forests have been cut down due to the destruction of bark beetles. In addition, many forest owners anticipate that wood prices will continue to rise and are therefore taking a wait-and-see attitude. Forest owners usually do not have much credit, and few are financially dependent on timber trade income.<\/p>\n

Although the Swedish sawmills have raised the prices of wood for two years in a row, it is therefore even more difficult for them to get wood. As a result, sawmills have desperately expanded their purchasing areas farther and farther from the production facilities. In Sweden, this means that eyes are directed to Norway and southern sawmills are expanding their purchasing areas further north.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Finnish wood companies are looking further and further into Sweden. The competitive situation has changed dramatically, and there is no sign of an improvement in the situation, as the economic situation is now expected to improve and sawn timber prices will rise. If there is a shortage of wood in a low economic cycle, what is the situation in a high economic cycle? Especially when many investments that improve production capacity are completed.<\/p>\n

It is estimated that in southern Sweden alone, the shortage of logs will be five million cubic meters in a few years. It increases imports and raises prices even more.
