The latest financial reports from some of Sweden's leading wood product companies reveal a challenging start to the year, as they grapple with market conditions and weak construction market.<\/span><\/p>\n

S\u00f6dra Group:<\/h4>\n

In its interim report, the S\u00f6dra Group disclosed a net turnover of SEK 7,613 million (EUR 800.2 million), marking a five percent decline compared to the same period last year. The operating profit amounted to SEK 568 million (EUR 59.9 million).<\/p>\n

CEO Lotta Lyr\u00e5 acknowledged the quarter's performance, attributing it to prevailing market conditions. While the pulp business showed positive momentum, the sawn wood products sector continued to face challenges due to the sluggish construction economy.<\/p>\n

Lyr\u00e5 emphasized a strategic shift towards maximizing the value extracted from each wood fiber amidst increased demand. Despite the market headwinds, S\u00f6dra remains optimistic about its long-term prospects.<\/p>\n

Setra:<\/h4>\n

Wood products company Setra reported an operating loss of SEK -95 million (EUR -8.7 million) for the first quarter of 2024, with net sales totaling SEK 1,158 million (EUR 106 million). CEO Marcus Westdahl highlighted the industry's struggles, citing high timber prices and subdued construction activity as contributing factors.<\/p>\n

Despite these challenges, Setra remains confident in its market position and anticipates improving sales prices in the upcoming quarters.<\/p>\n

Holmen AB:<\/h4>\n

Holmen AB experienced a decrease in operating profit for the first quarter of 2024, dropping to SEK 944 million (EUR 104.9 million) from SEK 1,737 million in the same period last year. CEO Henrik Sj\u00f6lund attributed this decline to reduced paper prices and other factors.<\/p>\n

However, Sj\u00f6lund expressed satisfaction with the company's overall performance, noting strong earnings from its forest, hydro power, and paper segments. Holmen remains committed to further investments in renewable energy, exemplified by the allocation of SEK 1.5 billion for the construction of Blisterliden Wind Farm.<\/p>\n

Despite facing challenges in the wood products market, Holmen's diversified business model and focus on sustainability position it well for future success in a transitioning economy.<\/p>\n
