<\/span>In a recent development, West Fraser\u00a0 has confirmed the permanent closure of its sawmill located in Perry, Florida. The decision comes after the initial announcement in January 2023 to indefinitely curtail operations at the Perry Sawmill due to high fiber costs and a challenging lumber market.<\/p>\n

Joyce Wagenaar, the company's director of communications, stated in an email to ABC 27, \"West Fraser is now moving to permanently close the mill by the end of March.\" The closure marks the end of an era for the Perry Sawmill, which once employed approximately 126 workers.<\/p>\n

The Perry Sawmill had been operating with a small crew to maintain the facility following the indefinite curtailment decision in January 2023. However, persistent challenges such as high fiber costs and a low-price commodity environment have hindered the mill's profitability.<\/p>\n

Wagenaar further explained, \"The few remaining workers will complete their last shifts this week. The equipment will then be assessed for use elsewhere.\" The closure signifies a strategic move by West Fraser to realign its production capacity with market demand.<\/p>\n
