In recent years, the wood trade industry has witnessed significant growth in markets of such as India and the Middle East. The two recent notable wood trade shows, Dubai Wood Show and Indiawood, held in these regions have provided invaluable insights into the evolving dynamics of the timber market. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dubai Wood Show: China, East Africa and Russia with strong presence<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dubai Wood Show of this year revealed trends and insights on the exibitor proportions as well as markets from around the world. Out of all the exhibitors, Chinese companies represented around 25% - a big increase compared to last year when the COVID restrictions to go out of or into China were still on. Increased demand and many visitors have been observed from the African market - especially Ethiopia - particularly interested in machinery for timber and panels.<\/p>\n

A prominent feature of the exhibition was the array of international pavilions, boasting participation from 10 countries including the United States of America, Italy, Germany, China, India, Russia, Portugal, France, Austria, and Turkey. The event hosted 682 local and international exhibitors, with notable participants such as including Homag, SIMCO, Germantech, Al Sawary, BIESSE, IMAC, Salvador Machines, and Cefla. This collaboration not only enhances avenues for joint action and international cooperation but also opens new horizons for all attendees.<\/p>\n

It was the first time when companies from East Africa had their own pavilion, representing big companies from Gabon, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Another strong presence was that of Russia with almost 25 companies looking actively for new partners as they can't supply to many former business partners.<\/p>\n

The demand in the Middle Eastern market still exists but not at the levels the companies used to buy shortly after COVID. The Egyptian market is still harsh due to restrictions imposed by the government to spend the USD and EUR mainly on essential items as the local currency in Egypt was devaluate by the government by 56% after discussions with the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n

Many markets still appear to be in a downward trend what led to decreasing log supply in order to reduce the stocks on the market. Recently some of the suppliers increased the prices for sawn timber facing a strong push-back especially from markets that are still strong - like India. Meanwhile European hardwood companies report finally letting rock bottom behind them in the various regions in which they work.<\/p>\n

Indiawood: Growing platform in a growing market<\/strong><\/p>\n

With more than 950 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, such as USA, Germany, Italy, France, Malaysia and Taiwan, the Indiawood edition in 2024 presented itself as a platform for innovation, collaboration, and growth in the woodworking and furniture manufacturing industry to more than 75,000 visitors from from all over the world and neighbouring countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Middle East.<\/p>\n

Companies from many new countries participated for the first time to gain access to the market. This year\u2019s show had the highest amount of exhibitors and visitors, which points to the growing market and its opportunities for wood products and specialized machinery. Many first time exhibitors participated in the show and the number of companies from categories like doors and hardware was increased. Other categories were as usual machinery, panel products, logs and timber.<\/p>\n

The woodworking and furniture manufacturing sector is a vital component of India's economy. The interest to export by Indian companies is increasing, many companies are looking for export markets which was not the case a few years before.<\/p>\n

After government restrictions on imported products (by putting quality standards into place), Indian manufacturers now look for capacity expansion and setting up of new plants for products not yet manufactured in India. The growing furniture industry leads to more demand for for panel products such as plywqood, MDF, HDF, particleboard as well as raw material for those and finishing products. The demand for logs and timber is stable, while that for pine and spruce for packaging is rising. Manufacturers are also reaching out to new markets to buy raw materials like eucalyptus logs.<\/p>\n

From 2025 on Indiawood will alternate locations between Delhi and Bengaluru each year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
