The Polish Chamber of Commerce for the Wood Industry sent a letter to local government authorities in which it presented the situation of the wood industry and the effects of restrictions on wood harvesting that have already been implemented or are planned in the near future throughout Poland. <\/span>According to PIGPD, it is important for the widest possible group of stakeholders to have information about the negative consequences of such decisions.<\/p>\n

According to PIGPD, local government officials - as hosts of their \"small homelands\" - must have full information about the problems associated with unconsulted decisions to limit wood harvesting and what impact this may have on the situation in the areas they manage.<\/p>\n

According to estimates provided by representatives of the State Forests, a \"moratorium\" on wood harvesting in forests covering approx. 96 thousand ha. introduced by the Ministry of Climate and Environment translates into a reduction in wood supplies in the amount of approx. 550 thousand. m3. The market value of this wood, according to the average price obtained by the State Forests from sales in 2023, amounting to PLN 320\/m3, is PLN 176 million.<\/p>\n

However, the loss of income of the wood industry in the entire processing chain, incurred as a result of not processing such an amount of wood raw material, is many times higher. An analysis carried out a few years ago by the Ministry of Development shows that the processing of round wood worth PLN 1 generates the value of market products in the amount of PLN 12. This simple relationship indicates that the lack of wood caused by the \"moratorium\" will translate into PLN 2.11 billion less revenues generated by the wood processing economy.<\/p>\n

Taking into account another regularity, that each 100 m3 of wood processed is approximately one job, it can be expected that the current restrictions on logging will translate into the loss of jobs for approximately 5,500 people.<\/p>\n

The wood industry in Poland draws attention to visible, dramatic declines in product sales in all sectors related to wood processing. These declines also involve a radical reduction in production margins:<\/p>\n

Garden program \u2013 45%
\nPallet production \u2013 25%
\nProduction of windows and doors \u2013 35%
\nTimber production \u2013 depending on the type, from 29% to 43%
\nFurniture production \u2013 30%
\nFloor production \u2013 35%
\nProduction of wood-based boards \u2013 30%
\nPaper and cardboard production -12%<\/p>\n

PIGPD indicates that the thoughtless exclusion of 20% of forests in Poland from production will translate into a reduction in the supply of wood raw materials by as much as 8.5 million m3 per year, which, according to today's prices, may result in a decrease in the production value of the entire wood industry of PLN 32.6 billion - annually.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the wood industry in Poland asks the Prime Minister\u00a0<\/span>for immediate intervention and decisions to improve the situation on the market for the sale of wood raw materials from forests owned by the State Treasury.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0Industry representatives propose a meeting to present proposals that will calm down and stabilize the wood market.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
