Wood prices in Germany rose slightly in the first quarter and are likely to continue to rise. As the hardwood season is coming to an end, agreed uses should be processed quickly, say the forest owners' associations, in order to avoid a loss of quality.<\/p>\n

Buyers of industrial roundwood predominantly purchase stable quantities. However, prices are stagnating and the prices for sawing by-products have recently fallen significantly. Due to the warm winter, the demand for energy wood in Germany is lower than expected, which means that sales of forest chips are currently difficult.<\/p>\n

Wetness makes timber harvesting more difficult and supports prices<\/strong><\/p>\n

The difficult weather conditions last year, especially the persistent wetness, led to problems with roundwood procurement and wood removal, report forest owners. It is said in many places that the above-average rainfall has further exacerbated the tense situation in timber harvesting.<\/p>\n

Against this background, German forest owners' associations and sawmills are even expecting an upward trend in sawn timber prices in the spring.<\/p>\n

In addition, exports, which have collapsed, also seem to be recovering again and lumber prices on the world market have been rising for some time. The reason: The housing market in the USA is recovering and the demand for lumber is increasing noticeably. This is shown by the world market prices for lumber.<\/p>\n

German forest owners are deprived of their freedom of choice<\/strong><\/p>\n

The EU Parliament's vote for the renaturation law was met with strong criticism from German forest owners. \u201cThis is a completely unnecessary step back to the mistakes of the past,\u201d said Ivo von Trotha, AGDW executive board member and vice president of the European forest owners association CEP.<\/p>\n

As with Natura 2000 or the designation of FFH areas, attempts would be made to achieve high targets with regulations and regulation, but without financing. \u201cIt is already foreseeable that the implementation will fail in practice,\u201d said von Trotha: \u201cThe forest will be made future-proof by motivated foresters and forest owners, not by regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n
