The negotiations will affect over 2,200 employees at all the forestry firm's pulp mills, sawmills, and communication paper mills in Finland.<\/span>
\nFinnish forestry giant UPM has announced the beginning of negotiations with employees that may lead to some temporary layoffs in Finland.<\/p>\n

The talks will affect all UPM pulp mills, sawmills, and communication paper mills in the country, the company said in a press statement released on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

\"The change negotiations cover approximately 820 persons in UPM Pulp Finland's operations, approximately 340 persons in UPM Timber sawmills and approximately 1,100 persons in UPM Communication Papers Finnish mills,\" the company said.<\/p>\n

Any layoffs resulting from the talks would be phased in during the second half of this year and could possibly continue into the beginning of next year. According to current Finnish law, a worker can be furloughed for a maximum of 90 days.<\/p>\n

The talks are aimed at preparing the company for \"possible temporary adjustment of production in the Finnish units, should the uncertainty in the operating environment continue,\" the statement noted.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
