In southern Germany and Thuringia, wood pellets now cost 260 euros per ton. This last happened in November 2021.

Pellet prices continue to fall in early March. The pace and extent of the price decline has even increased again. According to the federal average , wood pellets cost 280 euros per ton this week. That's another 10 euros less than a week ago and 20 euros less than four weeks ago. Compared to last year, wood pellets now cost 80 euros per ton less. That's a price drop of around 22 percent.

At the same time, wood pellets now cost about as much as they did in November 2021, i.e. before the Ukraine war. In addition, pellet prices have now fallen well below 300 euros per ton in all federal states. In southern Germany and Thuringia the 260 euro mark has now been reached.

Pellet experts had assumed that prices would fall in spring 2024 . But the fact that the price drop happened so early and so violently is a surprise.

If you look at the ongoing and sharp decline in prices , a further decline in pellet prices seems anything but unlikely. In normal years, pellet prices actually only fall at the end of the heating season - i.e. at the end of March or April. The price slide started considerably earlier this year.

If prices follow their usual pattern and reach their lowest point in April, then much lower prices than previously expected are possible.

The prices for wood pellets in Germany are falling dramatically.
