The European Panel Federation (EPF) has joined with 72 leading companies and 34 industry organizations in signing the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The partners are calling for the Deal to be at the core of the new European Strategic Agenda for 2024-2029. A fulfilment of the Declaration would allow industry to take its position as a key driver towards a \u201cresilient, competitive and sustainable Europe that works for all\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Declaration was presented to European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and to Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo at the European Industry Summit held in Antwerp on February 20.<\/p>\n

Signatories represent a broad spectrum of industries, including wood, paper, chemicals, textiles, steel, glass and ceramics.<\/p>\n

EPF chairman Martin Brettenthaler said the Declaration aligns with the EPF\u2019s objectives and strategic directions.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy prioritising reindustrialisation, especially with natural, innovative sustainable products such as wood-based panels, we can play a vital role in delivering the European Green Deal,\u201d said Mr Brettenthaler.<\/p>\n

The European wood-based panels industry\u2019s annual turnover is about \u20ac25bn and creates over 100,000 jobs directly in Europe. The EPF said the sector was an integral and innovative part of the EU\u2019s bio and circular economies.<\/p>\n

The European Organization of the Sawmill Industry (EOS) is also one of the signatories of the \u201cThe Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal\u201d.<\/p>\n

On 20th February, companies and organizations express their full support for a European Industrial Deal to complement the Green Deal and keep high quality jobs for European workers in Europe. As very clearly stated by the Belgian PM Alexander De Croo: \u201cWe need our industry for their innovation capacity. To come up with tomorrow\u2019s climate solutions. That is why Europe should not only be a continent of industrial innovation, but should remain a continent of industrial production*<\/em>\u201d .<\/p>\n

To meet climate neutrality by 2050 and the recently communicated 2040 target, Europe\u2019s electricity production will need to multiply, and industry investments will need to be a factor six higher than the previous decade. This enormous challenge comes just as both large companies and SMEs face the most severe economic downturn in a decade, demand is falling, production costs increase and investments move to other regions, says EOS.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
