<\/span>The Homag Group increased its sales by 1.44% to 1.625 billion euros in 2023. However, the decline in order intake, which fell significantly by 18% to 1.395 billion euros, reflects the weak demand that has been ongoing since the third quarter of 2022, as the machine manufacturer from Schopfloch in the Black Forest announced today.<\/p>\n

The Board of Directors therefore expects a sharp decline in sales and earnings this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not expect a general market recovery before the end of 2024 and, from today\u2019s perspective, we expect order intake in the current financial year to at most reach the level of the previous year,\u201d said CEO Dr. Daniel Smith. \u201cWe are dealing with a pronounced cyclical market weakness. We expected a weakening of the economy in the furniture sector, but had expected better development in wooden house construction. The sharp rise in interest rates has led to a crisis in the construction industry, which has significantly slowed down investments in production technology for wooden construction elements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Homag responded to this weakness in November 2023 with a package of measures to adjust capacity in order to avoid losses. The key point is the reduction of around 600 jobs worldwide, at global 7,000 employees.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
