Citing recent US media reports, the Red Sea crisis continues to ferment and has now seriously affected the US furniture industry. Since 12% of the world's shipping passes through the Suez Canal where the Red Sea crisis broke out, freight companies chose to bypass it, which resulted in a significant extension of shipping time and a huge increase in freight costs.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the interconnected global logistics system, any problem will have ripple effects. Geoff Hawkes, chairman of Rochdale Spears, a Vietnamese company that mainly supplies high-end home furnishing brands, said: \"You will find a large number of container ships gathering on the other side of the world. Moreover, raw materials from Europe such as Italian fabrics and some wood take longer to ship. Come to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Analysts pointed out that U.S. furniture companies that mainly rely on Asian imports will be severely affected, including brands such as Wayfair, Bed Bath & Beyond, and RH.<\/p>\n

Williams-Sonoma CEO Laura Alber said in an interview that the company has been adjusting freight routes in response to the crisis. But even furniture companies that manufacture domestically in the United States have been affected, as many rely on global shipping networks for parts and raw materials.<\/p>\n

Lately, delays have begun to affect home design companies. Houston designer Mary Patton ordered an imported chandelier from lighting manufacturer Abode Jungle. This was her first order from the brand. A day later, she received a message informing her that \"the import of many Abode Jungle brand products has been delayed due to the conflict in the Red Sea.\"<\/p>\n

Chanae Richards of \u1eccl\u1ecdr \u0111\u1ecbInteriors in Philadelphia encountered the same problem. In the past four months, two different suppliers have delayed delivery dates for orders twice, blaming conflicts.<\/p>\n

She said: \"Sometimes, not having an accurate delivery time makes customers feel uneasy and makes us uneasy. We want to deliver orders on time, so when we don't have an accurate delivery time, it is also difficult for the business.\"<\/p>\n

The end date of the Red Sea conflict is unpredictable. But even if the situation persists for a while, experts tend to believe that logistics systems can and will adapt to avoid delays in escalation. According to previous reports, large container ship operators such as Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are rerouting ships to avoid the Suez Canal after their ships in the Red Sea were attacked by militants. Hanna Hajjar, BDI Furniture's vice president of operations, said the company's inventory of media cabinets, bedroom furniture and office furniture is low and has been shipped for export. \"We just didn't expect these delays as of late,\" he said, adding that the delays were adding 10-15 days to the shipping time of products imported from Vietnam. The business is also considering using alternative shipping options such as rail and air to import from China, but high prices mean they must carefully consider which products to prioritize.<\/p>\n

Hajjar said BDI is using the Canadian import route through California as an alternative because shipping through the Suez or Panama Canal is now twice the normal rate.<\/p>\n

European home furnishing company Aldi Nord said that it has completed its purchases, but may receive furniture and decorations and other goods later than originally planned, and therefore postpone product promotions.<\/p>\n
