\"Demand has been low, but we can see a slight pick-up\", Virva Juhola , production director of Mets\u00e4 Fibre's saw business , describes the market situation. Mets\u00e4 Group's five sawmills belong to the group's subsidiary Mets\u00e4 Fibre.<\/p>\n

The root causes of weak demand are especially the downturn in construction in Europe, the general situation of the world economy, and the volatility of currency regulation in North African countries. Production is limited everywhere.<\/p>\n

\"Now customer inventories are already low and some products are starting to be in short supply, so it boosts demand and prices a little bit higher.\"<\/p>\n

Despite the recession, Rauma's sawmill runs day and night, even on weekends. The sawmill in Vilppula operates around the clock on weekdays, but is closed on weekends, because the drying plant, sorting and packaging are bottlenecks.<\/p>\n

\"Production thinking doesn't just start from the sawn timber market, but we need to get the cutting boards going, because we need turned spruce for kerto wood and fiber wood for pulp mills.\"<\/p>\n

According to Juhola, the tuning of the Rauma sawmill, which started last year, has taken more time than expected, but the fastest gear will still be available this year.<\/p>\n
