The financial performance of the Koskisen Group declined last year. The operating profit was 24 million euros, which is over 30 million euros less than the previous year. The turnover decreased by nearly 50 million euros to 270 million euros.<\/span><\/p>\n

The challenging operating environment, especially the difficult situation in the construction sector, had an impact on both demand and pricing. The profitability was also undermined by the sustained high cost of raw materials, the company stated.<\/p>\n

\"Although the profit level for the whole year fell below the previous peak year, the performance in a challenging market situation can be considered good,\" said Jukka Pahta, the CEO of Koskisen, in a press release.<\/p>\n

Profitability declined in both the sawmill and wood-based panel industries. The commissioning of a new sawmill continued, but production targets were not met. In the panel industry, the sluggishness in construction was evident in occasional low orders for chipboard. However, the demand for birch plywood remained at a good level until the end of the year's quiet season. The demand for birch plywood is expected to continue to be strong.<\/p>\n

According to the company, wood procurement went according to plan last year, with wood inventories and stocks at a good level.<\/p>\n

The decline in prices for softwood logs stabilized, and prices remained high relative to the economic situation, as stated by Koskisen.
