After the completion of the test phase for the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) last week and the renewed postponement of the vote on the EU Supply Chain Directive, the German Sawmill and Wood Industry Association (DeSH) reiterates its criticism of the projects and warns of distortions for forest and wood industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the company's test run, not only the legal but also technical gaps became clear and showed that it is currently not possible to implement the EUDR in practice, says DeSH. The association appeals to politicians to create the necessary conditions to ensure legally secure and practical implementation within a reasonable period of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe test run in the participating companies in the sawmill and wood industry clearly showed that the implementation of the EUDR is currently not possible in practice,\u201d comments DeSH managing director Julia M\u00f6bus. \u201cIn addition to the lack of technical requirements, there are still open questions regarding the content requirements and the disproportionate bureaucratic effort threatens to lead to significant distortions along the entire value chain. We therefore appeal to politicians to take the industry\u2019s feedback and concerns seriously and to create the necessary conditions to ensure legally secure and practical implementation within a sufficient time frame.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeSH: Revise the deadline and requirements of the EUDR in a practical manner<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the introduction of the EUDR, the forestry and timber industry in Germany and Europe will also be affected by extensive verification and documentation obligations in the future, says DeSH. \u201cWe expressly support the EUDR\u2019s goal of counteracting global deforestation. However, we urgently urge a differentiated and, above all, practical implementation of the requirements in order to avoid negative effects on the climate protection potential of forests and wood,\u201d said M\u00f6bus.<\/p>\n

Since there are still many unanswered questions about implementation in practice, companies are extremely unsettled: \u201cIn the current economic situation, the lack of legal certainty and unclear framework conditions are putting an additional burden on the economy. It is therefore urgently necessary to revise the deadline and requirements of the EUDR in such a way that the requirements for the domestic value chain are relaxed and can be implemented in a legally secure manner in order to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy,''M\u00f6bus concludes.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
