The fourth quarter of last year did not bring any major changes in the wood market.\u00a0The situation in the Estonian timber sector continues to be difficult.\u00a0The recession continues and the construction market is still depressed by high interest rates.\u00a0All this is reflected in the prices of roundwood, especially in the log market.<\/p>\n
Over the year, prices have fallen on all assortments.\u00a0The prices of softwood logs are stably low, the price of the thick assortment of birch is in a downward trend, but high enough, the price of aspen and alder logs is stably satisfactory.\u00a0The price of paper wood is increasing slightly, which is good from the point of view of the forest owner.\u00a0The price of firewood continues to be stable and high enough to stock up even in somewhat more difficult places.<\/p>\n
There were no big fluctuations in softwood log prices in the last quarter of the year, but overall they were in a slight decline.\u00a0The prices of softwood logs sold from the state forest were in decline at the end of the year, while pine logs became cheaper compared to spruce logs.\u00a0At the end of 2023, prices fell particularly strongly for fine logs in the Finnish softwood log market.<\/p>\n
Birch logs were the only ones that did not become cheaper among the hardwood assortments sold from private forests, which increased in price by 1.4% in three months.\u00a0Compared to a year ago, prices have fallen significantly more, and it was particularly large for aspen and alder logs.\u00a0By this time, the rally to set price records for birch logs in Finland is over, in three months the price fell by 3.7%.\u00a0Year-on-year, however, the price has grown very nicely (22.1%).<\/p>\n
The price increase that started in the third quarter of the year continued on the pulpwood market.\u00a0During the quarter, the price of coniferous wood increased by 11%, birch wood by 0.4% and aspen wood by as much as 15.3%.\u00a0From November, softwood pulpwood is the most expensive type of pulpwood.<\/p>\n
The prices of pulpwood varieties sold from the state forest continue to be in a downward trend.\u00a0In October-November, prices fell sharply, in December they rose, but remained quite far from the September level.\u00a0In the paper wood market of the northern neighbors, the prices of all varieties have increased both over the three months and over the year.<\/p>\n
