The price of softwood lumber in Estonia is almost half cheaper compared to last year, but the producers have reduced the volumes, so a small price increase can be expected at the beginning of this year,\u00a0 <\/span>said Toomas Tauk, the manager of the Estonian wood retailer Puumarket, said<\/p>\n

Tauk added that due to the decrease in local and especially Scandinavian construction volumes, the price of wood is nearly 50 percent cheaper than a year ago. \"Wood moved completely in the opposite direction to the general inflation throughout last year and stopped in the summer. While there was clearly an oversupply of wood on the market for the last six months, by now the production volumes have been reduced and it seems that the price base is either here or the price went to the bottom in the fall,\u00bb said Tauk.<\/p>\n

Currently, Estonian wood producers are forecasting a 5-10 percent change for the first quarter, but no major price increase is expected for the next six months. The prices of general construction materials also fell in the last year, and there is no sign of a major price increase in this sector either, Tauk added.<\/p>\n

The most favorable time for construction<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the manager of Puumarket, large material producers will keep their factories open, volumes will be adjusted according to demand, and a new cycle of economic growth is expected.<\/p>\n

\"There is a sharp price fight on the construction market and profit margins have fallen, which is why now is the most favorable time for the customer to build in years. Availability and prices of materials are good and builders are flexible. For the same reason, we also started the reconstruction of our M\u00e4nnik sales office in the fall,\" said Tauk.<\/p>\n

\"According to banks' forecasts, Euribor should fall to 2.5-3 percent next year. In our analyses, we consider that together with the reduction of Euribor and the recovery of consumer confidence, construction volumes and demand will start to rise from the middle of next year,\u00bb Tauk added.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
