S\u00f6dra will close several facilities within the S\u00f6dra Wood business area during 2024 as part of strengthening competitiveness.<\/span> The facilities in \u00c5tvidaberg and Ramkvilla will be closed completely, while the unit in Klevshult will become a processing unit that will be further developed towards planing at the same time as the sawmill part is being shut down. Parts of the Tors\u00e5s plant are closed and the rest in Tors\u00e5s is put up for sale.\u00a0These changes affect 61 employees.<\/p>\n

\"We operate in a competitive industry where it is important to keep an eye on the future and work with continuous improvements. This decision is about strengthening our position and building a long-term and more competitive business where S\u00f6dra Wood's customer offer is at least as attractive going forward as it is today,\" says S\u00f6dra Wood's business area manager Marcus \u00c5sg\u00e4rde<\/p>\n

The Klevshult sawmill, acquired alongside AB Tenhults Impregneringsverk, was expected to contribute approximately 100,000 m3 of sawn timber annually, with a composition of 60% spruce and 40% pine. The closure of this facility will result in a reduction of S\u00f6dra's sawmill production by the same volume.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the acquisition, S\u00f6dra had initially expressed optimism and future plans for the Klevshult operations. CEO Lotta Lyr\u00e5, in 2021, had emphasized the importance of the sawmill, stating that it complemented the organization and strengthened S\u00f6dra's operations along the E4 corridor.<\/p>\n

However, the recent announcement of the closure contradicts the earlier narrative. The decision to shut down sawing operations and focus on planing in Klevshult is part of a larger structural change within S\u00f6dra Wood, aimed at enhancing competitiveness.<\/p>\n

S\u00f6dra's decision to abandon the sawmill operations in Klevshult raises eyebrows, especially considering the company's earlier plans for expansion.
