The EU Supply Chain Act entails further bureaucratic efforts for companies. On December 14, 2023, the European Parliament and member states reached an agreement on the European Supply Chain Act, which still requires approval from the European Council.<\/span><\/p>\n

The provisions of the European Supply Chain Act will surpass the already ambitious German Supply Chain Act, intensifying due diligence and inspection in the supply chain. The requirements are already high, involving examinations of human rights and environmental standards throughout the supply chain. Companies above a certain size must document and transparently present these assessments in an annual report.<\/p>\n

There is a concern that larger companies subject to the new regulation may impose obligations on smaller companies, even though they are not directly affected by the new regulation. The German Timber Trade Association (GD Holz) anticipates additional burdens on importers and trading companies with the planned adoption of the law.<\/p>\n

\"With the already significant burden of implementing the regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR), the new Brussels law implies additional substantial efforts for companies and demonstrates little economic sensitivity from the EU Commission,\" said Thomas Goebel, Managing Director of GD Holz. \"The new law aligns with the EU Commission's approach of regulating down to the smallest detail, further challenging the economic strength and flexibility of entrepreneurs.\"<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
