Weak demand and smaller volume of new orders contribute to the decline of wood sales prices,\" said Putni\u0146\u0161.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">At the same time, he added that the activity of LVM this year was also significantly affected by the spread of the spruce bark beetle and the emergency situation declared to control it, which coincided with the strong storm and the damage it caused in the third quarter of the year, especially in the Zemgale and East Vidzeme regions of LVM.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">\"In addition to the prevention of damage caused by spruce bark beetles, we had to urgently re-plan the fellings and carry out the elimination of the effects of wind damage,\" noted the chairman of the LVM board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">Putni\u0146\u0161 said that every year more than 95% of LVM's total revenues are obtained from the sale of wood products, so the price of wood sales is one of the most important factors affecting the financial results of the company's economic activity.\u00a0Wood prices, on the other hand, depend on the market situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">\"In recent years, the balance of the wood market has been affected by floods, the spread of the spruce bark beetle, the fight against the pandemic, and the geopolitical situation in Europe. The war in Ukraine caused instability in the European wood product markets - not knowing what the near future will bring, there was an increased demand for wood products in 2022 and the subsequent jump in wood prices, which we felt in the first half of this year and which is also reflected in the company's financial results,\" said Putni\u0146\u0161.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">He noted that excellent financial indicators will be achieved this year in general, but they were mainly facilitated by the sale prices of wood in longer-term cooperation agreements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">\"The high sales prices were formed much earlier - as a result of the wood product auctions held in December 2021, even before the war started by Russia in Ukraine, which rapidly and significantly changed the wood market situation around the world,\" noted Putni\u0146\u0161.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">At the same time, he predicts that currently the entire Latvian forest sector, which is the country's largest exporting sector, providing a fifth of the export value of all goods, and an important employer in Latvia's rural regions, faces serious challenges in the global wood markets where Latvian businessmen work.\u00a0The current situation will affect the development of both LVM and the Latvian forest industry in general in the coming year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">\"LVM works and develops in conditions of great uncertainty, when it is difficult to predict the impact of external factors, fluctuations in timber prices and inflation. These risks have been assessed when planning the company's next year's budget,\" emphasized Putni\u0146\u0161.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">At the same time, he added that the company managed to strengthen its leadership positions in several areas, including that LVM is ranked among the best European state forest managers according to various efficiency indicators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">\"Our added value is innovation - starting from highly visible and already usual, for example, wooden shield roadways that we use in economic activity, to those that take place inside the company and contribute to the overall increase in efficiency, for example, \"LVM GEO\" - a product, which has no analogues in Europe,\" emphasized the chairman of the board of LVM.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">He also pointed out that the developed logistics process of wood deliveries is organized at such a high quality that it is currently at least ten years ahead of other European companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-font font-size--text-xlarge margin-3--bottom\">","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The year 2023 was quite dynamic and sometimes unpredictable for the Latvian forest industry.
