Poland's State forests did not reach an agreement with FSC, to the detriment of furniture production. Ikea has 16 factories and almost 10,000 employees in Poland. However, there is a serious problem on the horizon.<\/span><\/p>\n

As shocking as it sounds, it is unfortunately a fact. At the end of last year, companies from the wood and furniture industries were sounding the alarm that the Polish State Forests wanted to give up the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certificate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The General Directorate of the State Forests published in September this year a message in which it announced that the State Forests will not continue the certification of forest management in the FSC system. The decision to resign from the certificate has already been made by 15 out of 17 regional directorates. And that means problems. The FSC certificate remains crucial for all the largest furniture manufacturers in the world.<\/p>\n

It appears that there is some legal dispute between FSC and the State Forests, and all its details are unknown. The real victims in this conflict are Ikea and other companies producing wood in Poland. Currently, they have a choice - producing furniture without a prestigious certificate or buying certified wood abroad. In the first case, the market value of the furniture will decrease, and in the second solution, costs will increase, perhaps by several dozen percent.<\/p>\n

The sale of products made from other raw materials in Western European countries is very limited. Without certified wood, Polish factories are less competitive.<\/p>\n

''Ikea, as an exception, may purchase wood not certified by FSC, but only until the end of 2025,'' Ma\u0142gorzata Dobies-Turulska, president of Ikea Industry Polska said.<\/p>\n

This means that after 2025, production companies in Poland will be forced to import certified wood from other parts of Europe. This will increase production costs by several dozen percent.<\/p>\n

\"If there is no FSC, we will obviously be less competitive in Poland. And that's a fact. We do not accept the thought that we would have to relocate our factories to other countries.
