As a result, the wood stocks in the sawmills have shrunk significantly.

The prices for spruce fixed lengths in the main range B/C 2b+ range between 80 and 100 euros per cubic meter, with most of the new contracts being at the upper end of the price range.

This has recently resulted in a strong boost in demand for fresh wood and rising wood prices . Nevertheless, due to the worsening crisis in the German construction industry, the wood industry is still planning to make significant cuts in the next few months, report the forest owners' associations.

The estimated reductions in the German sawmill industry of 20 to 30 percent of normal cutting capacity would lead to a significant reduction in the need for softwood lumber. The rest of the European lumber market is also unlikely to provide much positive stimulus in the next few months, as the construction industry and house building there are also in crisis.

However, the large amounts of fresh snow in the last few days are likely to reduce the volume of wood again and improve sales opportunities in the less severely affected regions.

The prices for spruce fixed lengths in the main range B/C 2b+ range between 85 and 100 euros per cubic meter, with most of the new contracts being at the upper end of the price range. Forest owner associations also report that prices for pine fixed lengths in the B/C 2b+ range increased slightly. Beetle wood felling and D-wood felling were mainly reported at 25 to 35 euros per cubic meter.

Hardwood prices mostly stable, industrial wood is used as energy wood

At the beginning of the hardwood season, the first deals indicate that the record prices of the previous season can no longer be achieved due to declining demand from the construction industry. Nevertheless, the price level remains high.

In any case, the demand for fresh logs, especially oak and ash, is good, report forest owners. The demand for beech, however, has declined slightly year-on-year.

The paper, pulp and board industries have also reduced their production due to a sharp drop in demand. The stock of softwood industrial roundwood is correspondingly good.

The energy wood market, on the other hand, is balanced, it is reported. On the one hand, the supply of energy wood is declining due to reduced felling activity; on the other hand, quantities of industrial round wood are being diverted into energy recovery due to low demand .

It should also be taken into account that the amount of work involved in pure energy wood production is lower. In any case, the prices are stable.

Kiln-ready firewood continues to be in demand at stable prices. Softwood and hardwood pulpwood prices were also mostly kept at their existing levels.

Wood prices have recently risen in Germany.
