The result weakened in both the wood processing group's sawmill and panel segments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finnish wood processing group Koskinen's profitability has weakened this year.\u00a0The result for the third quarter of the year was in the red - the operating profit was a loss of EUR 1 million, while a year earlier the profit was still more than EUR 8 million.\u00a0Turnover fell to 56 million euros.<\/p>\n

According to the group's CEO\u00a0Jukka Pahta,\u00a0the planned maintenance and production shutdowns, which were scheduled for July, are reflected in the third quarter result.<\/p>\n

\"Cumulatively, we are still on pace according to our guidelines: we are keeping our guidelines issued in November 2022 unchanged, which can be considered a good performance in this operating environment,\" states Pahta in the press release.<\/p>\n

Profitability weakened in both the group's sawmill and board industries.\u00a0Lumber prices were still falling in the third quarter, but the cost of raw materials was at a \"historically unfavorable level\" compared to the economic cycle, Koskisen says.\u00a0Sales have been active, and there has been no need to limit production.<\/p>\n

In the panel industry, the market situation for birch plywood has remained moderate.\u00a0The chipboard segment shows the difficulties of new construction, which is why Koskison also agreed on possible production restrictions.<\/p>\n

According to the group, the purchase prices of softwood logs have leveled off and turned to a slight decrease, but are still at a high level compared to the market price of lumber.\u00a0Meanwhile, the price of birch raw material has remained at the same high level.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
