In July-September, UPM's net sales fell by 24 percent from the previous year to 2.6 billion euros. Comparable operating profit, on the other hand, fell by 72 percent to 220 million euros.<\/span><\/p>\n

January-September net sales decreased by 7 percent to 7.9 billion euros. Comparable operating profit fell by 52 percent to 689 million euros.<\/p>\n

Although the performance of the third quarter was weighed down by the decline in pulp and electricity sales prices, the company sees reason for optimism. The start of production at the UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill and the third nuclear power plant unit in Olkiluoto will increase UPM's deliveries in the second half of the year.<\/p>\n

\"Our comparable operating profit for the third quarter almost doubled compared to the previous quarter, and the demand for many of our products gradually started to pick up. We succeeded in managing margins again, when variable costs decreased\", CEO Jussi Pesonen stated in the press release.<\/p>\n

UPM expects the comparable operating profit for the whole of 2023 to decrease from last year. UPM's comparable operating profit in the second half of 2023 is expected to be at the same level or better than in the first half of the year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
