In Finland, the forest industry is currently grappling with several challenges, including a rise in production and a shortage of raw wood, which are tempering the decline in log prices. <\/span>Despite a recent downturn, there is some hope for a slight recovery in demand, as indicated by the economic review from Luke, a Finnish research institute.<\/p>\n

Although the softwood lumber market remains sluggish, there are prospects of an upturn in the crucial European export markets by the latter part of the upcoming year, according to Luke's forecast. However, the anticipated growth in Finnish lumber production and exports is expected to be marginal, with the projected average export price of lumber estimated to be four percent lower than the current year.<\/p>\n

Likewise, Luke foresees that the production and export of plywood will likely maintain current levels, yet the average export price is anticipated to drop by eight percent. On a positive note, there is an expectation of an increase solely in birch log production due to the surge in overall forest industry production and the scarcity of raw materials.<\/p>\n

Conversely, the prices of pine and spruce logs are projected to decrease by four percent, aligning with the trajectory of sawn timber prices. Furthermore, the carrying price of birch bark, which is used in plywood production, is forecasted to increase by five percent.<\/p>\n

The escalation in the production of pulp, cardboard, and paper has led to an increase in thinnings that yield pulpwood. Despite rising harvesting costs, the average cost of pulpwood is estimated to decrease by 0\u20132 percent.
