The absence of Russian birch plywood from the European market brought a spike in demand for birch logs, which pushed prices even higher than softwood logs in some places.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, according to Timo Uotila, the forest manager of Riga Wood the peak of the economic cycle has ended.<\/p>\n

\"Prices are clearly falling both in Finland and in the Baltics. The market is not bad, but it is not hot anymore.\"<\/p>\n

Domestic price statistics confirm that the price of birch wood is groping, but it is not in a clear decline like that of softwood - at least not yet.<\/p>\n

\"We no longer have a shortage of birch logs, the stock and reserve situation is good.\"<\/p>\n

In terms of success, Uotila especially highlights the fact that the company has started to participate in the vertical sales of birch log mills on a small scale, i.e. started its own direct wood procurement.<\/p>\n

There are half a dozen industrial plants that exclusively use birch logs. Riga Wood annually turns around 110,000 cubic meters of birch logs, which is ten percent of the birch logs harvested in the whole country for its sub-trees.
