<\/span>The mood in the German wood industry remained cloudy in September 2023.<\/p>\n

Although companies were somewhat more satisfied with the current business situation than in the previous month, expectations continued to deteriorate. The German wood industry was skeptical about the next six months given the collapse in construction demand, the weak consumer climate and the increasingly dwindling order backlog. There is no end to the dry spell in sight.<\/p>\n

The assessment of the current situation improved slightly in September to -22.2 points (previous month: -26.5 points). The outlook for the next 6 months, however, slipped further into negative territory. The current value was -41.4 points (previous month: -38.5 points). Overall, the HDH economic indicator fell minimally to -32.1 points in September (previous month: -32,<\/p>\n

Compared to the entire manufacturing sector, the business climate in the wood industry was significantly weaker. The value calculated by the Munich-based Ifo for the manufacturing industry rose slightly to -16.4 points in September (previous month: -16.6 points) and thus remained well above the corresponding value for the wood industry (-32.1 points).<\/p>\n

Given the different levels of impact on the individual segments, the mood in the wood industry was mixed. Companies in the construction-related sector of the wood industry (+7.4 points) and in prefabricated wood construction (+1.6 points) still assessed their current business situation as positive. However, expectations in all segments indicated negative developments in the coming months. In particular, the wood materials industry (-86 points), the wood packaging industry (-76.7 points) and the sawmill industry (-64 points) are currently worried about the future: These segments expect a significant deterioration in the business situation in the next six months.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
