Logging for the full year 2023 will be lower than the record years 2021 and 2022. That assessment is made by the Swedish Forestry Agency in its annual forecast for gross felling in Swedish forests.<\/p>\n
The forecast shows that the total felling is estimated to land at around 93 million cubic meters of forest.\u00a0That is a decrease of 3 million compared to 2021 and a decrease of 2.8 million compared to last year.<\/p>\n
''The reason is mainly a reduction in production in the forest industry.\u00a0But because the economic situation is currently uncertain, this year's forecast is more uncertain than normal,'' says Johan Paulsson, statistician at the Swedish Forestry Agency in a press release.<\/p>\n
The authority recently reported that felling notifications have increased so far this year, but the Forestry Agency expects that many objects that have been notified will not be felled this year.<\/p>\n
In the forecast, both the proportion of sawn timber and pulpwood is estimated to decrease by 2 and 4 percent, respectively, compared to 2022. On the other hand, the range of firewood is estimated to increase by three percent.<\/p>\n
Imports are expected to increase by 7 percent, while exports look set to remain unchanged.<\/p>\n
Logging levels in 2021 and 2022 were the largest to date, excluding 2005 and 2007 when logging was even greater due to storms Gudrun and Per.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
