In the first half of the year, the gross profit of the State Enterprise Forests of the Czech Republic decreased by 19 percent to 3.85 billion Czech crowns (158.85 million Euro). The reason for this was a 21 percent reduction in timber harvesting to 3.8 million cubic meters, which is related to the aftermath of the bark beetle calamity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Eva Jouklov\u00e1, a spokesperson for the enterprise, stated, \"Forests of the Czech Republic are gradually returning to management that is not influenced by the calamity. This is evidenced by the lower volume of timber harvesting, and consequently, lower revenues and economic results.\" Revenues by the end of June decreased by 13 percent year-on-year to 8.22 billion Czech crowns (337.82 million Euro).<\/p>\n

The operational profit of the enterprise per one cubic meter of harvested timber was higher by 28 Czech crowns (1.15 Euro) in the first half of the year compared to the previous year. \"This is primarily due to cost savings in forest protection and effective management of the bark beetle calamity,\" the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Forests of the Czech Republic manage nearly half of the forests in the Czech Republic. In the spring, the enterprise stated that due to lower harvests and expected lower wood prices, it expects a year-on-year decrease in gross profit of approximately one-fourth to 4.9 billion Czech crowns (200.09 million Euro) from last year's 6.7 billion Czech crowns (274.87 million Euro).<\/p>\n

Timber harvesting in state forests is expected to decrease to 8.5 million cubic meters this year, returning to pre-bark beetle calamity levels in 2018. \"Of this, two million cubic meters should consist of bark beetle wood. This indeed signifies a return to normal management,\" said Dalibor \u0160afa\u0159\u00edk, the CEO of the enterprise, in May.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
