The summer slowdown in the Estonian roundwood market has shifted to a moderate increase. Over the past month, prices for softwood logs, softwood, birch pulpwood, and firewood have gone up.<\/p>\n

In the softwood log market, there has been a notable increase in the price of pine logs (11.6%), nearly returning to early summer levels. Spruce logs have risen by 7.3% in the past month, while pine small logs increased by 2.8%, and spruce small logs by 2.5%. However, these prices have not yet reached their pre-summer lows.<\/p>\n

Over the last three months, pine logs have decreased in price by approximately 11%, and other assortments by 15-17%. Compared to a year ago, these price drops are more pronounced, with pine logs seeing a more significant reduction compared to spruce logs. In the span of a year, pine log prices have fallen by 30.2% (37.05 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), and pine small logs by 28.4% (30.3 \u20ac\/m\u00b3). Meanwhile, spruce log prices have decreased by 16.4% (15.5 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), and spruce small logs by 12.7% (11.3 \u20ac\/m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

The price trend for hardwood assortments in Estonia during August was mostly neutral or slightly declining. Birch logs and aspen logs remained stable, while birch logs decreased by 3.2%, and aspen logs by 5.2%. Over the past three months, all these assortments have become notably cheaper. Aspen logs have seen a reduction of 12.3%, birch logs by 20.1%, birch pulpwood by 15.9%, and aspen pulpwood by 9.5%. In comparison to August 2022, the price of aspen logs has decreased by only 0.5% (0.95 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), which is an exception in the Estonian timber market. Meanwhile, the price of birch logs has dropped by 10% (13.15 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), aspen pulpwood by 32.1% (27.7 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), and birch pulpwood by 14.5% (11.6 \u20ac\/m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

In August, the Estonian paperwood market followed a similar pattern to the softwood log market, with prices returning to early summer levels. Softwood increased by 5.6%, birch wood by 0.3%, and aspen wood by 6.1% in just one month. Compared to three months ago, the prices of all wood types have dropped, with pine and spruce wood falling by 17%, birch wood by 19.4%, and aspen wood by 8.4%. Compared to the same period last year, the price drop in the Estonian paperwood market is more significant than in other assortments. This is primarily due to the exceptionally high price levels of the previous year, which were not expected to be sustained. In one year, birch wood has become 48.4% cheaper (51.8 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), aspen wood by 48% (39.7 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), spruce wood by 38.6% (29.9 \u20ac\/m\u00b3), and pine wood by 38.4% (29.65 \u20ac\/m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

The price trend for firewood in Estonia has moderately increased (4%) from the stable levels of recent months, reaching almost 42 euros per solid cubic meter (including VAT, 50.35 \u20ac\/m\u00b3 for regular consumers). Quality firewood with a length of 3 meters is up to a quarter more expensive. While today's price is 1.4% higher compared to three months ago, it is 29.7% lower, or 17.7 \u20ac\/m\u00b3, compared to August of the previous year. Such a significant price drop in firewood is due to the easing of the energy crisis in the first quarter of this year. Since gas and electricity prices are currently significantly lower than in 2022, there is likely no sudden increase in firewood prices expected with the arrival of autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
