Mets\u00e4 Group's Kemi bioproduct factory has started production this Wednesday. It produces 1.5 million tons of softwood and hardwood pulp annually.<\/span><\/p>\n
\"Pulp and cardboard are the raw materials for many of our consumer goods, which are produced in Kemi with significantly lower emissions than before. Finland now needs sustainable investments that create work, livelihood and faith in the future,\" says Mets\u00e4 Group CEO Ilkka H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4 in the press release.<\/p>\n
The factory uses 7.6 million cubic meters of wood per year, which is 4.5 million cubic meters more than the old factory.<\/p>\n
3.5 million will be procured from Finland and one million from Sweden, the company says.<\/p>\n
Most of the wood coming from Finland is purchased from the more than 90,000 members of Mets\u00e4liitto Cooperative, who own about half of Finland's private forests.<\/p>\n
According to the company, the additional use of softwood increases forest owners' income from wood sales by around 100 million euros per year. In addition, sales revenue from logs will increase significantly.<\/p>\n
The company calculates that a thousand new jobs will be created in wood harvesting, transport and forest management.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
