The European Parliament approved the Renewable Energy Directive. The Parliament kept in force the policy according to which all wood energy is counted as renewable.<\/p>\n
Even last year, the position of the parliament was that the share of forest biomass in the renewable energy target would be limited.\u00a0Since then, the negotiations between the European Commission, the Parliament and the Council of the member states led to the now accepted solution.<\/p>\n
However, wood used for energy must meet the so-called\u00a0the principle of cascade, i.e. the highest utilization rate.\u00a0For example, burning logs and pulpwood for energy leads to the end of investment subsidies for energy companies.<\/p>\n
The EU Parliament also confirmed the goal that 42.5 percent of the EU's energy should be renewable in 2030.<\/p>\n
