The value of Finland's forest industry exports fell to 6.3 billion euros in January-June.<\/span><\/p>\n The amount of wood imported into Finland increased in January-June. Compared to the previous year, the growth was seven percent and the import volume reached 2.9 million cubic meters, according to preliminary information from the Finnish Natural Resources Agency .<\/p>\n The import volumes of all other types of wood were lower than the previous year, except for fiberwood, whose import increased by 42 percent to 1.8 million cubic meters. A total of 507,000 cubic meters of pine fiber wood was imported to Finland by the end of June, i.e. more than 300,000 cubic meters more than in the first half of the previous year.<\/p>\n Imports of wood chips decreased by almost a third to 660,000 cubic meters and logs by a fifth to 60,000 cubic meters.<\/p>\n Imports are practically divided between three countries: the most wood - well over a million cubic meters - came from Estonia, just under 900,000 cubic meters were imported from Latvia and about 700,000 cubic meters from Sweden.<\/p>\n About one million cubic meters of raw wood were exported from Finland in January-June, which is more than 100,000 cubic meters more than a year earlier. Pine fiber was exported the most.<\/p>\n A big drop in softwood lumber export prices<\/strong><\/p>\n The value of forest industry exports fell to 6.3 billion euros in January-June. That is 8 percent less than a year earlier. Cardboard was the most significant export product with a share of 26 percent.<\/p>\n The export value of the wood products industry shrank by almost a third to 1.6 billion euros. The export volume of softwood lumber remained almost unchanged, but the value decreased by a third as export prices went down. Plywood was exported 17 percent less, but as prices rose, the value of exports decreased by only five percent.<\/p>\n In the pulp and paper industry, on the other hand, the value of exports rose by 4 percent to 4.6 billion euros. About a third more bleached sulfate pulp was exported, and the export value increased almost in the same proportion. Regarding magazine and fine paper, higher export prices compared to the first half of the previous year increased the export value more than the export volume \u2013 in magazine paper the increase was 18 percent and in fine paper 43 percent.
