The focus now shifts to substantially reducing infestation pressure for the coming year. The larvae, currently developing in infested trees, will give rise to adult jewel beetles in increased numbers around May 2024. These beetles will target partially infested trees and weakened, previously uninfested ones, further exacerbating the wave of oak tree mortality.<\/p>\n The situation demands a concerted effort to protect Germany's oak forests and the diverse ecosystems they support. Identifying infested trees and assessing infestation levels is a complex task, but it is crucial for the preservation of these vital natural assets.
