The German timber trade is feeling the effects of the downturn in construction.<\/p>\n
The timber trade in Germany is clearly feeling the very restrained demand and the weak construction sector. The general association of the German timber trade (GD Holz) explains that the uncertainty surrounding the planned building energy law is causing considerable reluctance to invest in the construction industry and in renovation.<\/p>\n
Demand and prices fall<\/strong><\/p>\n Sales and price developments for the most important ranges in the timber trade therefore declined significantly across the board in the first seven months. The 14% decline in sales is not only due to weak demand, but also to falling prices.<\/p>\n Due to the difficult economic environment, the timber trade continues to expect very subdued business in the coming months - also due to the sharp decline in the number of building permits in residential construction. Only a fifth of the companies surveyed in the monthly company comparison assume that sales will be at the previous year's level.<\/p>\n GD Holz calls for impetus and political clarity<\/strong><\/p>\n \"GD Holz is therefore urgently calling for impulses for housing construction, proposals from the Ministry of Building for degressive depreciation and postponement of the EH40-KFW standard for new buildings are a good approach,\" says GD Holz Managing Director Thomas Goebel.<\/p>\n In addition, there is an urgent need for politicians to ensure greater clarity, especially with regard to the Building Energy Act, and thus end consumer uncertainty. The construction industry must not be made more complicated and thus more expensive with even more ordinances and regulations.
