Obviously, companies that had invested in sustainable energy systems were much less affected than others.

There is a lot of uncertainty about how the market will develop in the coming months.

More specifically, it is noticeable that the construction of wooden buildings in Belgium does not increase, and diminishes even proportionally compared to the rest of the building sector. This is a strange phenomenon because this is contrary to the tendencies in our neighbouring countries.

There is no clear explanation for this, apart from that the Belgian building sector is very conservative and not likely to quickly adopt new construction methods. Also, public initiatives to mainstream wood construction are lagging behind.

The market for softwood lumber in Belgium has been declining since 2022 due to reduced activity in the building sector.
