The mood in the German timber industry has deteriorated noticeably.\u00a0After sales declines were reported in numerous segments in the spring, the business climate has become increasingly gloomy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The main association of the German wood industry (HDH) economic indicator calculated by the Munich-based ifo Institute on the basis of company surveys fell significantly in June, by 11.5 points compared to the previous month to \u201336.4 points.\u00a0This accelerated the downward slide that had been going on since February of this year.\u00a0The decisive factor was the significantly poorer assessment of the current situation, for which the value fell by more than 21 points to -55.4 points.\u00a0The assessment of expectations for the coming six months, on the other hand, tended sideways at -14.9 points.<\/span><\/p>\n The decisive factor for the overall downward trend was the development in important sub-sectors.\u00a0According to the ifo Institute, the business climate index for the German sawmill industry fell by 9.1 points compared to May 2023 to minus 55.2 points.\u00a0This was solely due to the future expectations of companies, which were estimated to be even weaker than before.<\/span><\/p>\n Similar developments took place in the wood-based materials industry, where the business climate index of the ifo Institute fell by more than nine points to minus 58.0.\u00a0Here, too, it was the clearly cautious view of business expectations in the second half of the year that characterized the trend.\u00a0Business expectations in the German wood packaging industry also joined the list of pessimistic forecasts.\u00a0The ifo business climate index for the wood packaging industry fell to minus 39.6 points.\u00a0On the other hand, the mood index for the furniture industry recovered slightly, due to a slightly improved assessment of the current situation in June.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The mood in the German timber industry has deteriorated noticeably.\u00a0After sales declines were reported in numerous segments in the spring, the business climate has become increasingly gloomy.
