UPM\u00a0Plywood has completed the change\u00a0negotiations, which started in May, concerning salaried employees in the staff and global functions, and in its Finnish mills. The company aims at renewing its organisation and adjusting its operations to meet the reduced production capacity and the deteriorating market situation. At the same time, the company invests in utilising the opportunities offered by digitalisation.<\/p>\n
These measures will result in a reduction of 28 positions in Finland.<\/p>\n
UPM Plywood\u00a0offers high-quality WISA plywood and veneer products for construction, vehicle flooring, LNG shipbuilding, parquet manufacturing and other industrial applications.<\/p>\n
As reported earlier, UPM Plywood's production capacity has decreased significantly over the past three years.\u00a0The company closed the unprofitable Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 plywood factory in 2020 and sold the Chudovo plywood factory in Russia this spring.\u00a0A total of 255,000 cubic meters of production capacity has been removed.<\/p>\n
In recent months, the demand for spruce plywood and veneer has decreased due to the weakening of the construction cycle.\u00a0UPM Plywood has adjusted spruce plywood and veneer production with layoffs throughout the beginning of the year.\u00a0The outlook for the birch plywood distribution business is also uncertain.<\/p>\n
