The Finnish forest industry group Stora Enso is closing the N\u00e4pi sawmill in L\u00e4\u00e4ne-Virumaa during the restructuring process<\/span>, which means the loss of work for approximately 100 people.<\/p>\n \"The decision to initiate the N\u00e4pi sawmill closure plan was made due to the decrease in the availability of raw material in the long term and due to increased costs and low profitability,\" the company announced.<\/p>\n N\u00e4pi plans to gradually cease operations by the end of 2023.<\/p>\n \"The plan to close the N\u00e4pi sawmill is, of course, sad news for our company and, above all, for the local employees. We see the need to focus on strategic goals and invest in fewer but stronger sawmills in order to improve the competitiveness of wood products business, \" said Lars V\u00f6lkel, vice president of Stora Enso's wood products business division.<\/p>\n N\u00e4pi sawmill in Northeast Estonia produces lumber, post-processed wood and wood pellets. The annual lumber production volume of N\u00e4pi sawmill is 50,000 cubic meters. The annual production volume of two planing lines is 180,000 cubic meters of post-processed timber. In addition, the sawmill produces 25,000 tons of pellets per year.<\/p>\n The closing of the N\u00e4pi sawmill does not mean that Stora Enso ceases operations in Estonia. \"We are continuing to develop our Imavere sawmill, the largest in the Baltic States, in order to continue as a strong player in this region,\" said Lars V\u00f6lkel.<\/p>\n Overall, Stora Enso announced the cuts on Thursday, which will lead to a total of 1,150 job cuts.
