According to Rosstat, the Russian state statistical agency, the production volume of plywood in Russia during the first four months of 2023 reached 1.02 million cubic meters, reflecting a decline of 24.1% compared to the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n Due to the imposition of EU sanctions, Russia has lost its presence in the European plywood market. Between January and April 2022, exports to Europe amounted to 352 thousand m3, generating $256.8 million in revenue, as reported by Lesprom Analytics. Meanwhile, despite the removal of most favored nation status and an increase in duties, plywood deliveries from Russia to the United States continue.<\/p>\n However, from January to March 2023, exports of Russian plywood to the U.S. witnessed a significant year-on-year decline of 77%, totaling 39 thousand m3. The export value also plummeted by 85%, amounting to $23.3 million. The average price of plywood experienced a decline of 33% to $603 per m3.<\/p>\n In the first four months of 2023, the industrial production volume of lumber in Russia reached 9.2 million cubic meters, indicating an 11.2% decrease compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n As a consequence of Western sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, China has emerged as the primary market for Russian lumber producers. With limited access to European markets, sawmills in Russia's North-West region have redirected their efforts towards capturing the Chinese market.
