In large parts of the German timber industry, the mood improved slightly in April. <\/span><\/p>\n According to the Main Association of the German Woodworking Industries\u00a0(HDH) economic indicator determined by the Munich-based ifo Institute has recently stabilized at a low level.\u00a0Business concerns about energy prices began to fade.\u00a0However, the economy lacks momentum.\u00a0High commodity prices, reduced purchasing power and further increases in construction interest rates continue to weigh on the situation in the sector.\u00a0The companies assessed their current business situation somewhat weaker than in March.\u00a0The value for assessing the current situation fell to 1.8 points in April (previous month: 9.9 points).\u00a0However, optimism increased significantly with a view to the coming months.\u00a0The corresponding value determined by the ifo Institute for assessing the prospects for the next six months climbed by around ten points to -30.1 points.<\/p>\n When comparing the individual segments, the mood in the German timber industry has recently remained inconsistent.\u00a0The companies in the construction-related area of \u200b\u200bthe wood industry (+41.1 points), in prefabricated wood construction (+33.3 points) and in the wood-based materials industry (+32.4 points) assessed their current business situation as positive.<\/p>\n However, the expectations in almost all segments indicate negative developments in the coming months.\u00a0In particular, the wood-based materials industry (-79.4 points), prefabricated wood construction (-71.8 points) and the wood packaging industry (-52.8 points) are currently looking to the future with concern: These segments expect the business situation to deteriorate significantly in the next six months.\u00a0From the point of view of the HDH, this is mainly due to the declining demand for construction and the fall in real incomes.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In large parts of the German timber industry, the mood improved slightly in April.
