After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the wood-based materials manufacturer Swiss Krono is represented at this year's BAU Munich with a 200 m2 stand. The company has revealed some of its strategic short and long term measures, including OSB capacity growth and a shift in investment priorities to Western Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n \"Like many sectors in the construction supply sector and like all energy-intensive industries, our industry is severely affected by the consequences of the Ukraine war - think, for example, of the increased inflation and the increased costs for energy and raw materials. Although we can look back on a successful 2021\/22 financial year, we see a sharp decline in demand for building materials in the current financial year. The decline was to be expected, but the extent surprised us, too,\u201d says Martin Brettenthaler, CEO and Chairman of the Swiss Krono Group.<\/p>\n Swiss Krono has implemented short-term measures since autumn 2022 such as reducing staff, costs and inventories.<\/p>\n Martin Brettenthaler explains: \u201cThe medium and long-term prospects for the industry are good, because if the European construction sector, which is responsible for around a third of greenhouse gas emissions, is to be decarbonised, more will have to be built with wood. This is recognized everywhere and will lead to a strong, enduring and above all growing demand for engineered wood.\u00a0 consistently relies on certified energy management, the use of renewable energies,<\/p>\n Swiss Krono says that the company will continue to strengthen the three business areas of Flooring, Interiors and Building Materials. Especially in the area of \u200b\u200bbuilding materials, with the core product OSB, the group has already massively expanded the production capacities at the existing locations in recent years: In Germany, at the Heiligengrabe location, the OSB production capacity was increased from 450,000 to 600,000 m3\/year in 2022 expanded and in Poland it will increase from 430,000 to 480,000 m3\/year by the end of 2023. Further expansions are being implemented at the sites in France, Sully-sur-Loire, and Hungary, V\u00e1s\u00e1rosnam\u00e9ny, with planned commissioning in 2024. Swiss Krono plans to grow in Western Europe with new OSB production sites (greenfield expansion).<\/p>\n \u201cOriginally, an OSB plant with a production volume of 600,000 m3\/year and an investment volume of EUR 260 million was to be built at the Sharja location in Russia. Immediately after the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression in the Ukraine, we immediately canceled this project, which was already very advanced, together with all other investments in Russia.
