In the federal average, wood pellets cost less than 330 euros per ton for the first time at the beginning of April. In some federal states, customers can already buy their wood pellets for 305 to 315 euros per ton. The aid for households that heat with heating oil and wood pellets should now also be paid out.

In the first days of April, pellet prices fell by a further 10 euros per ton. According to the experts from Heizpellet24, heating pellets cost less than 330 euros per tonne for the first time this week on a national average. In some federal states, customers have to pay less than 315 euros per ton. And there is still no end to the price decline in sight. The regional low is currently 305 euros per tonne in Thuringia.

Overall, these are the lowest pellet prices since December 2021, exceeding all expert expectations. In January, Martin Bentele from the German Energy Wood and Pellet Association (DEPV) told the Berliner Morgenpost: "I assume that the price will level off between 400 and 500 euros per tonne in 2023." This forecast has already been significantly undercut .

And it keeps going down. In normal years, the pellet prices actually reach their seasonal low in the summer months - i.e. from about July to the beginning of August. This is when customers usually order the largest quantities. It currently looks as if pellet prices will fall further in the coming weeks and months, repeating the seasonal pattern seen before the energy crisis. However, it is not clear how far it goes down.

Pellet prices in Germany continue to fall in April.
