UPM's new pulp mill in Uruguay has reached technical readiness to start production, the company informs.\u00a0The Paso de los Toros factory has also received the approval of the environmental authorities necessary for an environmental permit.<\/p>\n
The next step is waiting for the start-up permit, which will be available in the next few weeks.\u00a0It is believed that pulp deliveries to customers will begin within about a month of the start-up.<\/p>\n
\"The increase in UPM's pulp production capacity by more than 50 percent means a growth leap for the company's pulp business and ability to generate results.\u00a0The financial impact of the investment is also significant in Uruguay, where it creates considerable opportunities for people and communities,\" says CEO\u00a0Jussi Pesonen\u00a0.<\/p>\n
In addition to the pulp mill, the total investment of approximately 3.2 billion euros includes a deep-sea port terminal in Montevideo, a new eucalyptus nursery and investments in the infrastructure of the mill's local environment.\u00a0These projects have already been completed and are in operation.<\/p>\n
\"The annual production capacity of the Paso de los Toros mill is 2.1 million tons of eucalyptus pulp, which makes UPM one of the world's leading pulp manufacturers.\u00a0We now have a balanced production structure and wood procurement in the southern and northern hemispheres\", says Bernd Eikens\u00a0, director of the UPM Fibers business area\u00a0.<\/p>\n
