Wood trade in Finland picked up last week and log prices continued to rise.<\/p>\n

The purchase volume of Mets\u00e4teollisuus ry member companies increased to 630,000 cubic meters, which is almost 90,000 cubic meters more than the previous week. All buyers' purchases for the entire beginning of the year rose to 8.6 million cubic meters. That is 2.4 million cubic meters more than in the same period last year. At that time, purchases were restrained by UPM's industrial action.<\/p>\n

Last week, average carrying prices were on the rise across the board. An average of 75.67 euros per cube was paid for spruce logs, 73.64 euros for pine logs and 55.07 euros per cube for birch logs.<\/p>\n

Logging intentions were still falling. Forest use notifications were submitted to the Finnish Forestry Center last week for 1.2 million cubic meters, which is more than 20,000 cubic meters less than the previous week. Most of the plans included the harvesting of pine fiber, a total of 270,000 cubic meters.<\/p>\n
