Due to a lack of fibre, Resolute Forest Products has suspended sawmill operations at the Saint-Thomas-Didyme mill until June 11. A decision which is however made without impact on the workers, assures the spokesperson for the multinational,<\/p>\n
\u201cThe date of June 11 is no coincidence, it is at this time that forestry operations will resume. Basically, we ran out of fiber to supply our plant. We had to operate in slightly more difficult harvesting sectors and this forces us to suspend our sawing activities in Saint-Thomas-Didyme,\u201d Louis Bouchard, a spokeperson of the company explains.<\/p>\n
About fifteen employees are affected by the stoppage of sawing, but they are redirected to other tasks or other facilities.<\/p>\n
The planing activities of Saint-Thomas-Didyme remain unchanged by this decision.<\/p>\n
As soon as harvesting operations can resume in order to transport fiber to the plant, PFR intends to restart sawmill operations.<\/p>\n
Resolute does not foresee any other adjustments to its sawmilling activities in the region, except for the Saint-F\u00e9licien sawmill, which will take a one-week break.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a one-week break for spring break.\u00a0There is a question of fiber, but also of adjusting our production.\u00a0We will take the opportunity to do maintenance, so it is a stop that is done without impact on jobs there again.\u00a0Some workers will be on maintenance and others may avail of different options like vacations.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
