In February 2023, the mood in large parts of the German timber industry improved further.<\/span><\/p>\n The Main Association of the German Timber Industry (HDH)\u00a0business cycle indicator calculated by the Munich-based Ifo Institute increased for the third month in a row.\u00a0The companies assessed their current business situation noticeably more positively than in the previous month.\u00a0The pessimism with regard to the coming months also eased noticeably.<\/span><\/p>\n Although high raw material prices, reduced purchasing power and higher construction interest rates continue to weigh on the sector economy, the German timber industry is gradually working its way out of its weak phase.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the Ifo Institute, the assessment of the current situation rose significantly in February to +10.7 points (previous month: -0.1 points).\u00a0The outlook for the coming six months also improved, to -30.5 points from -40.4 points in the previous month.<\/span><\/p>\n However, when comparing the individual segments of the timber industry, the mood was inconsistent.\u00a0The companies in prefabricated timber construction (+57.1 points), in the construction-related area of \u200b\u200bthe timber industry (+52.9 points) and in the furniture industry (+4.4 points) assess their current business situation as positive.<\/span><\/p>\n Expectations in most sub-sectors point to negative developments in the coming months.\u00a0<\/span>In particular, the wood-based materials industry (-59.5 points), the wood packaging industry (-42 points) and the sawmill industry (-36.2 points) have recently looked to the future with concern: a significant deterioration in the business situation in these areas was expected in the next six months.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In February 2023, the mood in large parts of the German timber industry improved further.
