The situation in the Latvian forest industry has been affected, among other things, by an atypically wet winter.\u00a0Those fellings that are drier, located closer to the road and are relatively easy to realize, are much more expensive than those fellings that are located in the middle of the forest and are difficult for heavy equipment to reach.<\/p>\n
In January, there were no significant changes in the average price for softwood sawlogs, which is a surprise after the long \"grinding\" of prices over the past year.\u00a0A slight fluctuation in prices is observed for thick pine sawlogs, which, compared to the price of November last year, have experienced a decrease of 3%, but stability is observed in the other categories of sawlogs.\u00a0Although construction volumes could decrease this year due to inflationary pressure, which would also affect the demand for construction wood, the continued absence of wood from Russia and Belarus in the European markets will stimulate the demand for Latvian wood, so an increase in the prices of this assortment is possible in the spring, experts estimate.<\/p>\n
Compared to the other tree categories, the price of aspen firewood continues to rise slightly in January this year.\u00a0Since December, the highest price of aspen firewood has increased from EUR 60 per cubic meter to EUR 67 per cubic meter (by 11% more).\u00a0\"As the heating season draws to a close, it will be interesting to observe whether this year's May will see the traditionally lowest annual price of energy wood, which was not observed last year, due to the instability of the market and geopolitical situation,\"\u00a0according to the data collected by the Latvian forest auction system \"E-silva\".<\/p>\n
An unusual balance can be observed in the field of birch wood, with the average price of birch veneer blocks remaining at 147.50 euros per cubic meter.\u00a0The further development of veneer production will also make its mark on the Latvian wood market, which will increase the demand for birch wood in the future.<\/p>\n
Although the highest price of birch pulpwood has increased by 5 euros in the last month, reaching 85 euros per cubic meter, in general, the price of both softwood and birch pulpwood has been unchanged in recent months.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
