The average prices of all sawlog and pulpwood assortments purchased from private forests in Finland increased markedly in 2022. Because of exceptionally high inflation, however, the prices of roundwood increased only by one percent on average in standing sales and by two percent in delivery sales from the previous year in real terms. The volume of wood trade decreased by 12 per cent but remained at a high level.<\/p>\n

In 2022, the average price paid for spruce logs purchased from Finnish private forests in standing sales was EUR 71.3 per cubic metre, and the average price paid for pine logs was EUR 67.0 per cubic metre. The prices increased by one percent from the previous year in real terms.<\/p>\n

In pulpwood standing sales, the average price of spruce was EUR 21.9, and the average price of pine and birch was EUR 19.8 per cubic metre. The price of birch rose by four percent, while the changes in the spruce and pine prices were less than one per cent.<\/p>\n

In 2022, pulpwood accounted for two thirds of the total delivery sales volume. The average delivery prices of pulpwood increased by four to five per cent at the annual level and varied between EUR 35.6 and 36.7, depending on the tree species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

In 2022, a total of 41.9 million cubic metres of Finnish industrial roundwood purchased from private forests were recorded in the wood trade statistics. Of this volume, standing sales accounted for 88 percent, and delivery sales for 12 percent. Of all assortments, spruce logs were purchased most, accounting for a quarter of the total volume. Pine pulpwood accounted for less than a quarter, and pine logs for a fifth. Logs and small-diameter logs accounted for half of all trade, while the proportion of pulpwood was slightly smaller.<\/p>\n

The volume of wood trade decreased by 12 per cent from the previous year. However, wood trade remained at a high level and was three per cent below the average for the previous five years.
