{"id":84011,"date":"2023-02-14T09:35:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T09:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/exports-of-russian-lumber-fall-25-in-2022-due-to-sanctions\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:59:29","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:59:29","slug":"exports-of-russian-lumber-fall-25-in-2022-due-to-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/exports-of-russian-lumber-fall-25-in-2022-due-to-sanctions\/","title":{"rendered":"Exports of Russian lumber fall 25% in 2022 due to sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img width=\"640\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/lumber2-2.jpeg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/lumber2-2.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/lumber2-2-300x180.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sanctions on timber imports introduced mainly by the European Union, the USA and Japan as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine resulted in a significant reduction in the export of Russian lumber.<\/p>\n<p>Wood purchases from Russia were also limited by countries such as China, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and South Korea, but in this case the main reason was economic factors.<\/p>\n<p>Despite attempts to find new markets in Asia and Africa, Russian sawmills exported\u00a022 million m3 of sawn timber, i.e. 25% less than a year earlier.\u00a0The value of exports fell by 18% to USD 5 billion, which means an increase in the average selling price.\u00a0These figures do not include exports to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Armenia (Eurasian Economic Community), to which in 2021.\u00a0approximately 1 million m3 of lumber was exported from Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The export of lumber from Russia to the countries of the European Union of Europe was carried out with certain restrictions until July 10, 2022.\u00a0From that date, a complete ban on the purchase of Russian lumber by EU countries began.\u00a0Since then, there has been a sharp drop in foreign sales.\u00a0For example, lumber deliveries throughout 2022.\u00a0to Estonia fell by 51% to 509,000.\u00a0m3, and the value of exports decreased by 54% to almost USD 145 million.\u00a0Lumber exports to Finland were lower by 51% (281,000 m3), and in terms of value, they decreased by 53% to USD 71 million.\u00a0Exports to Germany fell by 64% and amounted to 280,000.\u00a0m3, and its value fell by 60% to USD 110 million.\u00a0Exports to Japan decreased by 30% to 686,000.\u00a0m3, and the value of exports decreased by 28% to USD 300 million.<\/p>\n<p>Among the countries that have not imposed sanctions on Russia or they are not as drastic as those imposed by Western countries, a decrease in the purchase of Russian lumber has also been observed.\u00a0China, for example, reduced lumber imports from Russia by 10% to 14 million m3, but its value increased by 11% and exceeded USD 3 billion.\u00a0In turn, exports to South Korea decreased by 27% in terms of quantity and 27% in terms of value, to 386,000 and 386,000, respectively.\u00a0m3 and USD 108 million.\u00a0The volume of Russian lumber exports to Azerbaijan fell by 36% to 659,000 tonnes.\u00a0m3, and the value by 8% to USD 113 million.\u00a0Sales to Uzbekistan reached slightly over 2 million m3, which means a decrease by 5% and an increase in value by 33% to over USD 422 million.\u00a0Lumber exports to Tajikistan fell by 2% to 485,000.\u00a0m3, while the value increased by 49% to USD 93 million.<\/p>\n<p>The largest increase was recorded in the case of sales to Turkey, which in 2022 rose\u00a0by 45%, to the level of 120 thousand.\u00a0m3.\u00a0The value of exports to this country increased by 51% to USD 29 million.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sanctions on timber imports introduced mainly by the European Union, the USA and Japan as a result of Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine resulted in a significant reduction in the export of Russian lumber.
