The Austrian sawmill industry is reviving, the demand for spruce sawlogs has picked up noticeably after the Christmas shutdowns. Prices for the 1st quarter of 2023 have risen again. Across Austria, the price for spruce A\/C 2b+ is between 103 and 120 euros per cubic meter. Pine is also following the slight upward trend, while larch is maintaining its high price level despite the scarce supply. Harvest and transport capacities are sufficiently available. Due to the weather, bringing the harvested wood in a way that protects the soil poses a challenge, and there are sometimes roadblocks.<\/p>\n
The oak sawlog market demand continues to be brisk. Accordingly, it also provides the largest amount of valuable wood submissions in Lower and Upper Austria at the end of January. But beech also has very good sales opportunities. Price increases are difficult to progress, especially for oak due to the already high price level.<\/p>\n
Pulpwood<\/strong><\/p>\n The warehouses of the paper, pulp and board industry are still able to absorb roundwood from the softwood industry. Accumulated quantities can be marketed without any problems. The removal and acceptance take place continuously and without any significant time delay. Prices are stable at the new level. Red beech fiber wood is in high demand with equally stable prices, ash fiber wood can be marketed without any problems.<\/p>\n Wood energy<\/strong><\/p>\n The demand for energy wood is still high. The prices are stable to rising depending on the region. The demand for quality firewood is currently low due to the very mild winter so far and the advance purchases in the previous year.
